ABOUT MATT

Early Life

MATT WAS BORN AND RAISED IN....

...in Burlington, Iowa, and is the second oldest of four kids. Growing up in a middle-class neighborhood Matt learned the value of hard work, community service, and being a good leader.

Family

MATT AND HIS WIFE SOPHIE....

....have been married since 2009. They have 5 children, Elin, Olivia, Mia, Jacob, and Lillian. Matt volunteers for his children’s sports teams, and spends as much time as he can with his wife and children.

Education/Career

MATT GRADUATED FROM....

....Burlington Community High School in 2003. After his military service Matt attend Southeastern Community College, and later graduated from Western Illinois University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Economics. Matt currently works in the insurance and financials services industry.

Military

AFTER THE EVENTS OF 911....

... Matt volunteered to serve in the United States Navy. During his time on active and reserve service Matt had multiple tours and deployments around the world including Iraq, Kuwait, Greece, Japan, Texas, and California. After more than 8 years of service Matt honorably discharged as a Master at Arms 1^st Class Petty Officer.

Public Service

BEING ACTIVE IN THE COMMUNITY.....

...is what Matt has been doing most of his life. He has served on several boards including Rotary Club President, Southeast Iowa Shop with a Cop, Burlington Education Foundation, MVC Boy Scouts of America Executive Council, and 5 years as a Burlington City Councilman. Matt is currently serving his first term in the Iowa House of Representatives.
